Cheeseburger Empanadas ~ Baked or Fried!

IMG_4667

More of an, "idea" than a recipe...I found these Goya empanada wrappers in the freezer section of our local grocery store. They come ten to a pack and are super easy to use!

Just thaw (they thaw quickly) and get stuffing!

The filling options are endless!

In this case, my goal was to pack a cheeseburger with all the fixings inside the dough.  I cooked up some hamburger, drained it, placed it in a bowl and added chopped pickles, tomatoes, onions and American cheese...

stuffed the empanadas with the filling, brushed the edges with an egg wash and....

carefully crimped them closed...

You can fry them in 360 degree oil for about 4 minutes (below) or....

Bake them in the oven at 375 degrees for about 15 minutes (below)... (be sure to brush the tops with some of the egg wash before baking)

What a fun and tasty idea! Stuffed pockets are always a treat, and something I don't do nearly enough! I love this idea and wish I had a plate full of them right now :)

This is absolutely what I need. I'm so not a fan of making dough and always cheat with pre made. I'm loving this alternative.

I didn't realize these wrappers were available and I can see many uses for them. Yours look delicious and I like stuffing them with a complete burger.

Pickles? Maybe no warm
Pickles for me but it sounds nice otherwise! I wish I could find those premade empanadas where I am at...but anything Mexican or Latin-ish is difficult to get in Ontario Canada unless you live in Toronto. Otherwise, the stores only have Old ElPaso boxes. Seriously it is just wretched....
