Steak and Eggs - It's How We Roll

IMG_0145

When we were young, in love and living in New York City, sometimes on the weekends we would roll out of bed and head to brunch at Cilantro, a colorful Mexican restaurant right around the corner from our tiny walk-up apartment.

I remember one day sitting there at the restaurant, all the windows were open and there was a touch of spring in the air. My husband ordered the Steak and Eggs and we both had frozen margaritas. While we sat there enjoying our food and people watching on Second Avenue, my husband turned to me and dead serious exclaimed, "You know, we live like rock stars!"  I smiled and shook my head in complete agreement.

Fast forward ten years...here we are in suburbia, a house, a mortgage, two cars, and two little ones who HAVE NO IDEA HOW MOMMY AND DADDY USED TO ROLL!

I thought about that day this morning while making the kids breakfast...then I made this Steak and Eggs for my husband with some fresh bruschetta and toast points with homemade honey butter.

I like to think we're still living large! :)

I just read this post aloud to my husband! So fun.

Crazy how life changes - I'd say you're still doing very well and rollin' like rock stars! :)

This is what we call "age appropriate behavior" :-). Every season has a sweetness all its own. Your steak and eggs looks wonderful. Have a great day. Blessings...Mary

Great post. And look at the perfect sunny side up egg! Steak and eggs is about my most favorite breakfast, with only Eggs Benedict beating it out for that #1 spot. I was just thinking of what sounded good for Sunday breakfast, and you've answered my question.

Oh, the trappings of rock star living we leave behind as we become respectable . I agree.. daily responsibilities aside.. that steak and eggs is living large!

HAHAH!!! I'll be saying that someday!! Except exchange posh NYC for glamorous Waikiki beach! Why not introduce the kids early to margaritas? You know, like around 6 pm, then they'll sleep through till noon the next day... just sayin :)

I live right across the street from Cilantro! I've never actually been there but my roommate gets take-out from them all the time! Your steak and eggs looks so delicious...I'd say it's a pretty rock star-worthy meal.

I have a few such moments when my husband and I were younger and more carefree. It is always good to make something to bring back those memories! This dish looks so appetizing!

Oooh so familiar...I still live in the city but enjoy none of those perks. And NYC is certainly not the same as when we used to go there, sans enfants. Nowadays we still live like rockstars, just the crazy, noisy, messy part of it. And the sleepless nights.
